Illustrators can expect to be assigned to draw or paint animals, whether they are familiar with them or not. On two occasions fairly recently, I've been asked to render seahorses which have claimed a rise in popularity in the designing of social correspondence. Here are a few of the brush-rendered sketches I did for a client who wanted a stylized seahorse for her personal stationery. She liked the calligraphic feel of the pointed brush versions:
Illustrations in simple black and white linear form are well-suited to being foil-stamped, embossed, or converted to any ink color for commercial application.
My favorite seahorse illustration was created for my niece's wedding invitations three years ago. Seahorses mate for life, and therefore my niece selected them to symbolize her marriage. They were painted with watercolor and applied in various ways to the stationery package:
